Computer Science

Multimedia means a combination of several media that collaborate and are closely related to each other. Media consists of audio, video, images, text, computers, etc. According to Rosch in M. Suyanto's book (2005:20), multimedia generally means a combination of three elements, namely sound, images & text. In short, multimedia has devices including CD-ROM or DVD-ROM, sound cards, and speakers. Multimedia also has two types, namely interactive and non-interactive.  Simply put, the difference in type depends on the response to its use. Interactive multimedia means the user will move and respond actively and be able to select the desired scene. Examples are games, simulators, and tutorials. Meanwhile, non-interactive multimedia means that users act passively and watch scenes sequentially, such as live streaming and presentations. Learning media involves users in mentally demanding activities in learning. From this perspective, the specific mentality required in learning media can be generated through systematic manipulation of specific instructional events. Here we clearly state the important role of instructional design in learning media (educational multimedia).

Basically, the aim of implementing learning using multimedia is as much as possible to replace and complement the objectives, materials, methods, and assessment tools that exist in the teaching and learning process in conventional and instructional learning systems. Implementing this multimedia will be able to provide changes in the learning atmosphere, so that it can create motivation, especially in following the learning that is being followed, so that it can improve student learning outcomes. Multimedia technology helps in efforts to increase student motivation, exploration, and improvement of subject matter at school. Multimedia technology applications in the form of tutorials, simulations, virtualization, and making it easier to obtain information, transmit, and carry out routine tasks automatically. This type of learning has several advantages, including the learning system being more innovative and interactive, students being able to be more active in two-way communication with the teacher, students being better trained to be more creative and dare to ask questions, teachers must be creative and innovative to find learning breakthroughs, able to combine texts. , images, audio, music, animation, and navigation, increase student motivation during the teaching and learning process and they are able to visualize material that is difficult to explain using conventional methods.
