Understanding SaaS, PaaS and IaaS

what is about three services available through Cloud Computing, the SaaS, PaaS and IaaS.
Let on this occasion I will be a little discussed:

First, Software as a Service (SaaS).
SaaS is a model where the application "offer" to clients as a service. If an application / software is presented to the client, the client does not need to take care of and update on the application. But otherwise, if providers want to change or do an update on the application, we can only follow them without being able to do anything. The core idea is we use the software on the service provider, and the provider must be ensuring we use the software, including thinking about the updates, security and infrastructure.

Software as a Service

Which often require in-depth calculation here is a matter of price and tecnology. There are two types of billing contained in this service. First, that we pay for each use of the application and secondly, we pay a little bit in the beginning and for all, we will pay only for what you use us against the application. The first option, of course detrimental to us as clients. The second option would be 'slight' adverse providers (of course, every provider wants huge profits, right?).

types of software offered on SaaS, namely:

  1. Resources management for customers
  2. Video Conferencing
  3. IT Service Management
  4. accounting
  5. web analysis
  6. Web content management

applications offered in SaaS are applications that do not require a lot of interaction with other interface and has a simple usability. Of course, since these applications will be used by hundreds or even thousands more user!

SaaS looks good so far? Well, it depends on our needs. Once again I reiterate that SaaS is only suitable for simple applications! If a company needs a specific computing process, the company probably will not find what they are looking at SaaS. Then there is 'dependence' on a particular provider. If we want to move our data from one provider to another provider, there are two possibilities. First, it can not (happen if the provider is not cooperating) or costly (if both providers work together - of course they were, right, wants to profit!)

SaaS is the main enemy of the open source applications. Of course, the reason people use SaaS one of them is due to the cost of supporting and updating the application is borne by the provider. If there are open source, they will install the application on a local machine and does not require SaaS means!

The next service mode is Platform as a Service (PaaS). Similar to SaaS, PaaS also offers application services, only PaaS also offers a platform that we needed to create applications. PaaS is also often called cloudware, because we access them via cloud computing platform.

Platform as a Service

The main service PaaS usually in the form of application design, development, testing and deployment processes as well as hosting. Additional services can include team collaboration (allowing us to set up the application development team with people who are far away from us), the integration of web services, database integration, storage and administration of application versions.

PaaS also supports interfaces for web development such as Simple Object acccess Protocol (SOAP) and Representational State Transfer (REST). Both of these services support the construction of several web services at once (mashups).

Furthermore PaaS system is divided into three:

The facilities were developed in the Development Add-On. This system will offer several PaaS applications that can be customized by the user.

Stand Alone Environments. For regular use of the software developing.

Application Delivery-Only Environments. Also supports hosting services, such as security and scalability. Not including the development and debugging.

Such as SaaS, PaaS also adopts a lock-in where we have to pay dearly if you want to change providers.

Many application developers and programmers take advantage of PaaS, because:

Enables software developers or programmers who are in places far apart to work together in a platform.

No need to create its own infrastructure to develop a specific application.

The latter is Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) or Hardware as a Service (Haas). From the name alone we can imagine, is not it? This service offers the infrastructure and hardware to us.

Hardware as a Service or Infrastructure as a Service
Perhaps you are confused, what can be offered by IaaS? Can storage, processing power, memory and networking equipment! This infrastructure can also be added (depending 'rental package' and a fee of course) suited our needs. Parts of IaaS or Haas are:

Service Agreement which is the beginning of the approval of the client and the provider.

  • computer hardware
  • Networking
  • Internet connection
  • virtualization Platform
  • Billing.

In contrast to the grid computing (to be explained in other posts) or other distributed systems, applications typically offered on a SaaS web-native, which means accessible through a web browser. They should also be multitenant application that allows multiple users access at once.

After mengetahun pengerian above it then remained in your hands (or your boss), if you want to use cloud computing or stay with the local machine. Use calculations done before decided to use three of these services or not.
